Antique Folk Art Birdhouse withEarly Tar Shingle Roof, Tombstone Door, Iron Latch
A'real' folk art birdhouse with a pleasing overall design which includes a ball finial or lightening rod, 4 small dormers over a blue tar pitch shingled roof, a tombstone door with cast iron latch, an interior stoop and two 4 pane windows both with original screening. This birdhouse has remains of a whitewashed surface and the nailed construction is pretty solid - Birds nest material to inside is original to the piece and is not something that was added. The roof of this birdhouse makes it, and the doorknob and other tiny features just set it off. Most likely 1920's or 1930's era, this birdhouse measures 10" inches tall and is 13" inches long at the base and 9 1/4 inches wide at the roof line. Birdhouse is solid and clean.
